My Philosophy

My journey started in Florida many years ago as I began to foster and train dogs in my early twenties. Much of my time then I didn’t even fully realize I was training, I just had a passion, understanding and desire to learn all I could about dogs and training.

My passion for as long as I can remember was dogs and dog breeds. I find that oftentimes we can find answers or cues to help us understand our dogs by knowing what the breed history is, what they were bred to do, what their genetics are.

I’m also a firm believer that most dogs are under exercised and often times this leads to destructive behavior. Why have a border collie if you’re not going to run them? Or a bloodhound if you’re not going to do scent work?

Of course, there are always the anomalies, the lazy husky, the active English bulldog, but generally there are categories of high energy, medium energy and low energy breeds. Choose wisely or be willing to put the work in.

Here at Jen’s DogHaus my ultimate goal is to create a bond that’s built on consistency and trust, to teach them, and you, how to communicate with each other respectfully, without confusion, so your dog can become a confident, balanced and calm member of your family. I can teach your dog, but YOU will also have to learn and upkeep the work with your dog. It is my job to build the foundation, and it is your job to continue the work.

My philosophy on dog training is:

just like people, all dogs are different! Different genes, different personalities, different motivations, different energy levels. This is why I tailor my training to each specific dog. I use tools such as gentle leaders, clicker training, harnesses, herm springer and martingale collars and focus on operant condition to train your dog. This is where I support and reward good behavior (stuff we want) but also correct negative (bad) behavior. Corrections are generally a firm “no”, “uh-uh” or corrective leash pressure.

Dog training should be FUN, and I apply the 3 C’s when working with your dog:

Calm, Confident & Consistent

Dogs are always in-tune with your energy, so calm is the way to go, always!

Dogs like to know they can trust their leader so being confident helps them build that bond with you!

Dogs learn best when directions are clear and consistent, so there’s no confusion as to what we are asking of our doggos!

Enough about me, I’m ready to meet you!

Send me a message to see if your dog would be a great fit for one of our programs and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can!
